How old should a newborn baby be for their newborn photography session?
So you are pregnant and shopping around for a newborn photographer. You love all those curled-up newborn baby photos and wrapped babes in buckets. ?
I don't blame you, they ARE super cute!
You are one step away from booking your photographer, but you have some questions unanswered about the whole process.
Well...let me tell you how we do this at Photography by Edina.
The Newborn Experience
I recommend to pregnant ladies book a newborn session after their 20 weeks scan so their photo session is secure no matter what.
We don't book an exact date for the session, we just pencil in a provisional date around two weeks after your due date into our calendar. This means that your slot is secure and flexible in case your little bundle of joy decides to come early. Or hang around a little longer and arrive after their due date.
After this, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your pregnancy and just drop us a message once your little one arrived. We will offer you a couple of dates for your session within 2-3 weeks after the birth.
But, I hear you asking, why does it have to be so early after delivery? Trust me, there is a very simple but very important reason for it.
Newborn photography sessions are best done when the baby is 5-14 days old if the little one is bottle-fed. If you are breastfeeding then best to schedule in the first 7-21 days. The reason behind this is very simple. The baby has to have an established feeding for the session so we can settle him/her into a deep sleep. Deep sleep means that babies can be posed safely, and safety is the MOST important thing during a newborn session.
