As a maternity and newborn photographer in York I have met hundreds of pregnant ladies and new mums and familiar with the emotions these mums are going through at this very special period. It is an exciting time when it’s all about you and your baby and things like shopping for maternity and newborn cloths with your best friends or mum, baby shower, maternity photo session, picking the best pram, finding out the sex of the baby during a scan with your partner, booking a 4D scan to “see” your baby, booking a newborn photo session, showing off your newest pride to the rest of the world, and so much more. This time is full of emotions and challenges and the help of their families and friends quite often their biggest support. Then lockdown came and changed our lives completely! All those things became a distant memory or unfulfilled dream and we stuck in our houses.
Following the government guidelines I couldn’t continue working anymore and I had to postpone all of my sessions until it will be safe to meet them again. I felt terrible. All those new mums will have to miss out on newborn photos and I won’t be able to gift them those adorable images of their tiny babies while they are still so small. I was devastated.
Now that I couldn’t take photos, I wanted to do something for all those pregnant women and new mums who are missing out on everything they were looking forward to and not even able to see their loved ones.
I’ve created ta Facebook group for anyone who is pregnant or recently given birth throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic. A friendly group where everyone will be sharing the same experiences so they won’t be alone. Whether they’re a first time mum or they’re on your third or fourth child, this support network will help them to enjoy the time while were are in lockdown. Somewhere to make friends and to post their stories to! Ask for advice, share great tips – a general chit-chat, to get them through the Covid-19 pandemic whilst pregnant.
So after creating the group I had lots of women wanting to join and our numbers reached 400 within only 2 weeks! I have invited professionals and local pregnancy and baby related businesses to provide more support and planned some amazing live sessions and classes in the group on topics like:
- Live baby massage
- Hypnobirthing Class
- Live Q&A with a doula
- Live newborn photo session in your home
- Live antenatal class
- And so much more
It even reached the news and I’ve been interviewed by Minster FM and you can read about it here.
I am very proud how much this group has achieved and helped so many women in this difficult time. If you are interested in joining the group please click here.
